WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW PRIOR TO WORKING WITH A DESIGNER - WEBSITE EDITION

Over the past three years we have critiqued our process multiple times to ensure our clients have the best experience and that we have everything we need to design an effective website. The number one mistake that we have found is that our clients do not realize the amount of work that it takes to prepare for their project. With that being said, we wanted to break down some of the essential information that your designer will need from you before being able to start your website development.

01. Brand Identity

To build a website that is in alignment with your brand you will need to have a brand identity, established color palette, and brand style so that your designer can create a cohesive website. If you do not have a brand identity chances are your website designer also offers brand identity services start there to ensure you are getting the most out of your brand and website design.

02. Professional Brand Photography

We think it is one of the most important and something that we personally require all of our clients to have. If you do not already have professional photos it can take some time to find a photographer that fits your brand style, schedule a photoshoot, plan for your shoot, and additional time for your photographer to get you the edits. Starting with this will help ensure that we will be building a website that is on brand aesthetically and it will give more of an idea of a timeline for your project.

03. Website Copy

Your website designer is not a copywriter and if they are they will let you know if that service comes with your package. It’s important to not assume that this is something that your designer will do. We try to help guide our clients the best of our ability and provide them with a workbook that has prompts and important things to keep into consideration when writing their website copy. This is where most clients tend to get caught up because they do not realize how much work writing your own copy actually is. If you do not want to write your own copy you can always ask your designer for referrals for a copywriter.

Once our clients have delivered all of the information that we need we will then be able to provide them with a timeline for their website development. A few other things to have in mind when you are thinking about hiring a website designer are

  1. Domain Name

  2. Newsletter Sign Up - If you are wanting to create a newsletter you will need to know what provider you will want to use, we personally use Flodesk and can offer you 50% off here
